The Outre Gallery in Melbourne is proud to exhibit a dark new series of works by Taiwanese artist James Jean, spookily entitled ‘Excavation. In conjunction with the release of a new book by the artist, the exhibition features a broad spectrum of influences from vintage printed ephemera to Northern Renaissance paintings. Jean’s concoction of comic aesthetic, fantasy, erotica, pop art and surrealism conjure the morbid and fantastical, and the visceral and subconscious all at once. So seductive are his works, they’ve graced the pages of ‘Rolling Stone’ (US) and ‘The New York Times’, while even Prada has called on the lad to pattern a fabric or two.
James Jean’s ‘Excavation’ is on at the Outre Gallery in Melbourne from August 22 to September 30.
