Known for their fervent dedication to the art of Canadian mockery, the writers of hit television show ‘How I Met Your Mother’ must have been eating their words yesterday, as Canada was announced the world’s best branded country. Australia came in second place in FutureBrand’s 2010 Country Brand Index which assessed 110 countries across 26 ‘image attributes’ and six other measures of brand strength. The countries with the highest ranking brands were all democratic, progressive, politically and economically stable, and do the majority of their business in English. And although Australia’s strong currency and poor performance in categories of history, art and culture will surely hinder our pursuit of pole position in 2011, one thing we do have is Oprah.
