Every girl ought to have one Clarins product they swear by. In fact, so too should the boys, with most at the Cream office swearing by the iconic Beauty Flash Balm. But for the farer sex, Clarins is giving plenty of foundation options, including the Collector Face Palette, pictured, inspired by the pure geometric forms of Art Deco. Featuring two complementary shades, it’s a snip at RRP $65.

For something a little more on the posh side, this silk twill scarf from Hermés ought to satisfy that someone (very) special. A comprehensive study of the influence of world fashion on designers today, Kristin Knox’s Culture To Catwalk is a stunning coffee table tome that looks back on the roots of the fashion industry and how street style can influence haute couture. Illustrated with beautiful photos provided by Getty images, it’s a must-have for fashionista friends. The trusty folks at Paramount Home Entertainment are releasing more and more movies in ‘Triple Play’ format. For those who’ve had their head in the sand for the past couple of years that means packaged to view on Blu-ray, DVD or as a digital Ddwnload. Available just in time for holiday viewing are action adventure flick ‘Thor’, Steven Spielberg’s spooky sci-fi newie ‘Super 8’, and the rather twisted aliens-meets-western treat ‘Cowboys & Aliens’. RRP $49.99 available from all good video outlets.

While you’re busy setting up the tree, wrapping the pressies, and stuffing the Christmas turkey, a little light music might be called for. That’s where the A Brandenburg Christmas CD will come in handy. The 16th recording on the ABC Classics label, the five-time ARIA Award winning orchestra this time deliver gorgeous takes on classics by Mozart, Gruber, Palestraina, and some traditional compositions to boot. Available from ABC Shops, music stores and online at  www.abcshop.com.au.

More CDs to get you or your loved ones into the Christmas spirit. Tori Amos’ Night Of Hunters is for those who figure their festive season might possess a bit of darkness (available through Deutsche Grammophon/SBS). Kate Bush’s 50 Words For Snow for a trek over to the brigher side (Fish People/Noble & Brite). Peter Gabriel’s New Blood, which features beautiful symphonic arrangements of the world music maker’s many hits (Real World/Warner Music). And Yellow: The New Age Renditions Of Coldplay, which have been dubbed ‘spa versions’ of the iconic rock band’s better known songs. Available from all good record outlets and most on digital download.

There’ll be plenty of time for them to enjoy a good book over the holiday season. For some gritty fiction, perhaps a copy of Stephen King’s 11.22.63 which is about a guy who goes back in time and is able to stop the JFK assassination (RRP $32.99, published through Hachette), or for a very good biographic read, Freddie Mercury: The Definitive Biography is packed with juicy rock’n’roll stories of the Great Pretender (RRP $35, published through Hodder & Stoughton). Rumour has it that Sacha Baron Cohen is set to play Freddie in a bio-flick of the artist, so this ought to get you up to scratch before catching his life on the big screen.

For friends who consider themselves a bit of a rock’n’roller, we strongly recommend one of these ‘Lightning Strikes’ rings from bold new jewellery label Lotus Mendes. Available in silver or gold, in sizes 6 to 9, they’re a great conversation starter to say the least. Also in the Lotus Mendes range are rings adorned with everything from frogs to horse heads (very mafiosa), and a host of cufflinks, bracelets, earrings and necklaces to ogle over. Visit www.lotusmendes.com to view the full range.
