THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

Art classes that offer a great social outlet and wellbeing benefits aplenty

Art Phoenix is a four-week creative program that supports people living with HIV to explore and express their creativity in a safe, inclusive space. Led by a local art tutor, the workshops focus on building artistic skills while honouring the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing that creative expression can nurture. The program welcomes LGBTQIA+ (and we know that ‘A’ stands for allies), and celebrates art as a powerful tool for connection, resilience, and self-expression.

Two-hour workshops are run weekly, where art theory as well as practise takes place, and the pros to an outlet like this are many. As any creative will tell you, art helps you to explore holistic ways that help shape wellbeing.

Whether it’s just getting something negative off your mind and onto canvas (hello Wednesday Addams), or feeling pleased as punch with your splatter-paintwork that looks better than any Hocking – let alone the physical exercise in arm movement and fun mind mischief, the benefits of creating art are boundless.

Express yourself and, hey, you may even end up seeing your works in an end-of-season exhibition.

A Bobby Goldsmith initiative, budding artists can submit their enquiries here bgf.org.au/art-phoenix.
