ARIA nominees announced
The nominees for this year’s ARIA Awards have been announced and the three big acts vying for the most gongs are Melbourne-based rap artist 360, internationally celebrated crooner Gotye, and – the biggest surprise to industry folk – Sydney rockers The Jezabels, but then we’re guessing an indie edge is imperative to this year’s ARIAs since presence of alternative music awards event, the Jagermeister Independent Music Awards is growing stronger.
Gotye (above) has been nominated in 5 categories, including Album Of The Year and Best Pop Release (for Making Mirrors) as well as Best Australian Live Act, and Best Male Artist.
But it’s 360 (below) who is leading the charge, garnering the most number of nominations – 6 in total – being for categories of Album Of The Year and Best Urban Album (for Falling & Flying), Best Australian Live Act, Breakthrough Artist, Best Male Artist, and Song Of The Year (for Boys Like You, his collaboration with Gossling).
And after three nominations last year, The Jezabels (below) receive a big haul in 2012 on the back of their Prisoner LP, nominated for 5 categories including Best Group, Best Australian Live Act, Best Rock Album, and Best Independent Release.
Perth-bred outfit, San Cisco (below), faired pretty well for their first year in the music limelight, nominated in 3 categories (Breakthrough Artist, Best Independent Release, Best Pop Release).
In categories away from rock and pop, ABC Music scored a record number of nominations – 23 in total – in genres ranging from Classical and Jazz to World, Country, Blues and Roots, Children’s and Comedy.
The ARIA Awards will be hosted at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on Thursday 29 November. For ticketing information, visit www.ticketmaster.com.au or phone 136 100.
