Perth artists have a virtual monopoly on ARIA Award nominations
Talk about a virtual monopoly on the ARIA Awards this year. WA bands feature heavily – possibly the most compared to all other states – in this year’s lists of nominees. Just to name a few: Tame Impala have 7 nominations for their album ‘Lonerism’; Birds Of Tokyo have been nominated in 6 categories for their album ‘March Fires’; Empire Of The Sun have scored 5 nominations (remember, one-half of EOTS is Perth dude Luke Steele); Freo outfit San Cisco have been nominated in 3 categories; The Drones also score a trifecta of nominations; and Karnivool are up for awards for Best Australian Live Act and Best Hard Rock / Heavy Metal Album; and Matt Corby (featured in the lastest ‘Rock Candy’) is up for. Not only is this list impressive, but we’re sure you’ll agree, it shows a huge variety of musical talent coming out of WA. The 2013 ARIAs take place on Sunday 1st December.
