Suspicious inclusions in the year's '100 Most Trusted' list

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of Reader’s Digest’s Most Trusted Poll, and filling most of the top ten are you’re usual medical champions, but there are a few surprises, too.

Making it to number one is neurosurgeon Charlie Teo, who has been given the top vote for the third year running for his constant study into brain cancer. He is followed by burns specialist Fiona Wood at #02, immunologist Ian Frazer at #03, humanitarian Chris Riley (found of ‘Yout Off The Streets’) at #04, and actor Hugh Jackman sittin’ pretty at number five (pictured above).

A princess (Mary of Denmark-nee-Tassie), television vet (Harry Cooper) and Dick Smith help round out the top ten.

Considering the criteria is based on trust, it’s surprising to see a few comedians making the cut, including global gallivanter Hamish Blake, and stand-up clowns Charlie Pickering and Josh Thomas.

Amanda Keller came out as the most trusted radio host (#39); Jessica Mauboy (#24) our most trusted singer (followed, rather surprisingly, by Tina Arena at #29), and singing budgie Kylie Minogue who is perched at position 34.

Those in sport who earned our trust include swimmerLibby Trickett (#18), Australian cricket coachDarren Lehmann (#21), AFL playerAdam Goodes (#40), and World Cup goal-kicker Tim Cahill (#41, and remember, the results were tallied before yesterday’s impressive kick to the back of the net).

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce dropped a number of spots from last year’s list, no doubt a result of all those tragic sackings he’d issued (#95), Gina Rinehart mined her way down to 93, whilst – shock, horror – convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby and her sister Mercedes sit at the bottom of the barrel at 99 and 100, respectively.

Indeed, by the time readers get towards the end of the list, it starts to read less of a tribute to those we ‘trust’ and more like a glorified ‘Who’s-Been-Googled-And-Wikied-The-Most’ account.  Antonino Tati
