Cable TV shows sure to scoop this year’s Emmys

It seems the popularity of subscription TV is on the up and up, with Foxtel happy to boast a host of its exclusive shows up for multiple awards at this year’s Emmys.
The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on FOX8 on Tuesday August 26 from 10am AEST – and the list of contenders from Foxtel’s own stable is most impressive.
This year’s Drama and Comedy Series nominees include Orange Is The New Black (as seen on Showcase) and Silicon Valley (on The Comedy Channel) in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, and True Detective (Showcase) in the Outstanding Drama Series category.
Super-popular series Game Of Thrones was the most nominated program with an astonishing 19 nods, followed by Fargo (the series inspired by the infamous movie)and American Horror Story: Coven with an impressive 18 and 17 nominations respectively.
Other programs receiving ten or more nominations include Breaking Bad, The Normal Heart (premiering soon), Saturday Night Live, House Of Cards, Downton Abbey and Modern Family.
And one show that’s only just starting to pick up pace with TV lovers, but which we ‘got’ from the get-go, is the masterfully produced Masters Of Sex (pictured above) starring Lizzy Caplan and Michael Sheen as two medical professionals studying everything sexual in an otherwise conservative 1950s.
