Lorde releases new single

The immense talent and all-round gorgeousity that is Lorde finally unleashes a brand-spanking new single in the form of the very-spooky-and-yet-very-groovy Yellow Flicker Beat.
The single, which is the lead track off The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack, starts off with Team-like a capella vocal then shifts into a simple bassline and infectious beat.
Opinion of the song amongst citizen journalists has been divided, with about half the critics online saying it’s the best thing since, well, since anything from Lorde’s Pure Heroine album, and the other half saying it’s, well, shite.
Personally we think it’s as good as a commercial soundtrack single can get. Enough eeriness to give it edge; and yet catchy enough a chorus to appease the mainstream. Basically, you can expect to hear it on indie radio right about now; and on commercial radio in about six, yes six, weeks.
It must be difficult being Lorde. The girl was thrown into the international limelight at age 16, lauded for her unique and powerful voice and witty lyrics, praised for her independent attitude, and loved for her down-home and raw look. Faced with delivering that ‘difficult second album’ soon, the pressure is on, and to have thrown herself into recording the lead track of one very big (set-to-be) blockbuster film is sure to have haters label her a “sell-out”.
We say whatever brings in the money, go for it, girl. Especially when talent like that deserves to get paid. Antonino Tati
