The New Australian Trash

They say there’s no accounting for taste, and lately Australian celebrities – both A-list and B-grade – have been on a rampage to prove the point.
The most obvious example: hideous and recently engaged duo Geoffrey Edelstein and Gabi Grecko. News of the dodgy billionaire businessman proposing to the wannabe fashionista went viral this week after he went down on his knees outside The Birdcage at Flemington Racecourse on Tuesday – him looking garish in canary yellow and she looking like the offspring of a clown and a giant galah. The pair of them make ‘celebrity’ in this country look like a mug’s game.
But it isn’t B-graders of this sort who are solely responsible for bringing our reputation down a peg or three. Recent rumours of supermodel Miranda Kerr dating Tom Cruise already have tongues wagging over an “arranged relationship”, what with Cruise’s reputation of having partners sign extravagant pre-nuptial agreements and those now-famous insinuations of his being a closet gay.
Continuing on the Aussies-In-Tinseltown theme, ex-Home And Away actress Melissa George – who has gone on to do bigger and brighter things in Hollywood – recently sold her bare assets to lingerie label Agent Provocateur. The actress-turned-model, pictured above, went one step further than her contract asked of her, revealing a lot of nipple at a fashion event in New York last night. The 38-year-old’s breasts were on full show – and this only months after she’d been touting her love for being a new humble mum. Note: it is winter season in New York right now, so what George was doing wearing a slinky sheer boob-and-leg-revealing frock could only spell ‘extra publicity stint’.
And so it worked. Antonino Tati

when women choose to act like men, why do they always choose to be rough men?
