Chinese culture goes Pop! at ACMI

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) will present its next major exhibition Yang Fudong: Filmscapes in Melbourne from Thursday 4 December.
Chinese artist Fudong is lauded for a couple of major reasons.
Firstly, he is one of the more pre-eminent artists to emerge from China since the end of last century, renowned for introducing multi-screen Chinese film installations to the West.
Secondly, his works explore the psychology of a new generation searching for meaning in the modern world and – more to the point – how China-specific cultural and social issues are affecting the world’s fastest growing economy today.
The ACMI exhibition is the first-ever career survey of Fudong’s work, and is the nucleus of ACMI’s special summer season ‘China Up Close’ which explores China’s moving image art and cinema through a rich program of events, talks and exhibitions.
