Leederville to turn on the lights and turn up the entertainment

Many forward-thinking precincts are hosting their own festival or carnival these days – closing off their main drags to make way for glorious food stalls, cool market stands, and entertainment aplenty. And we like it that way…
This weekend it’s Leederville’s turn, when it flicks the switch on the ‘Light Up Leederville’ carnival, expecting to attract over 70,000 people over the day and evening.
The free event will see entertainment coming from eight (count ’em) stages, food, drink, arts and crafts being served from 250 market stalls, roving entertainment, and even specified family spaces – three in fact!
Most of the action will happen along infamous Oxford Street and on the main corner area of Newcastle Street, Leederville (think: near Kailis markets).
Features and festivities include a Variety Santa Fun Run from 11am, food theatrics featuring some of the better chefs from restaurants in the area, live street art and sustainable art workshops, retro markets, basketball games and skater displays.
It’ll all culminate at 8pm when the Mayor will countdown to the City of Vincent street lights and fireworks show: the reason behind the festival’s name, of course. Antonino Tati
Light Up Leederville is on this Sunday 7 December, from 12pm – 8pm. It’s a free event brought to you by Alcohol.Think Again. For more information visit www.leedervillecarnival.com.au.
