Anyone who has had a pet knows of the immense joy they bring. But it’s also saddening to see the high number of domestic animals being put down simply because they have no home to go to.

That is why we’re glad to hear Saturday 7 February is Pet Adoption Day – helping to raise awareness of pet adoption while encouraging Perthites to take action by becoming a pet foster carer or adopter of a pet.

From 10am to 2pm, local animal rescue groups and pet adoption experts will attend PETstock-affiliated stores to share information about adoption processes, on becoming a pet foster carer, and of the multiple benefits of providing a rescue pet with a new forever home. Rescue pets will also be at some of these stores to meet potential pet parents. The initiative is led by charity foundation, PETstock Assist, in partnership with not-for-profit animal rescue organisation, PetRescue.

In the decade since PetRescue was founded, the organisation has re-homed around a quarter of a million pets nationwide including 70,000 in 2014 alone.

And that’s positive pet-lovin’ progress.  Antonino Tati
