Giving songwriters an opportunity to shine bright on a grander scale, the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) is hosted each year, inviting authors of original songs to have their works acknowledged by a panel of impressive judges and possibly heard worldwide.

Judges for the 2014 competition included Avicii, Bastille, Sarah McLachlan, Pat Metheny, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Natasha Bedingfield and Darryl McDaniels (the latter having worked with Run D.M.C.).

After some serious tuning-in by the aforementioned, 345 finalists have been announced for 2014, selected from over 18,000 entries from around the globe.

Of those finalists, an impressive 62 are Australian – varying from established artists to fledgling acts and including the likes of Vance Joy, Kimbra, Adam Eckersley, Hopium, Paul Mac, Kingwood, Thundamentals, Bertie Blackman, Neda, and San Cisco.

Referred to as “the songwriting competition to take note of” by the New York Times, ISC gives away more than $150,000 in cash and prizes, including a Grand Prize of $25,000 cash and over $40,000 in other booty.

Winners will be announced at the end of April. Watch this space for results.  Antonino Tati
