Selfie sticks banned from Splendour

The joy that comes with attending Splendour In The Grass is right there in the festival’s title. And judging by the line-up issued yesterday – which includes the awesome likes of Blur, Mark Ronson and Florence & The Machine – punters are going to sense plenty of splendour this year. One genre of punter, though, who won’t be feel so much joy is the self-indulged, infatuated selfie-taker. The reason? Splendour has placed a ban on selfie sticks from the venue.
The potentially dangerous weapon (imagine being poked in the eye with one) now joins a long list of items not allowed into the music festival, which include skateboards, recording devices (other than those built into mobile phones), and the more obvious dangerous likes such as fireworks and firearms.
Splendour is the latest in a host of festivals banning selfie sticks. But danger seemed far from another festival promoter’s mind when he tweeted his disgust for the annoying selfie stick recently. Soundwave founder AJ Maddah confirmed they would not be permitted within the grounds of all upcoming Soundwave events in a tweet that read: “Dear people with those fucking camera sticks: please have some consideration for people behind you trying to enjoy the show. Thank you.”
A little harsh, yes, but we couldn’t echo your sentiment more. After all, music festivals are about communities joining in on the love of particular music. It’s about the performers on stage. Not. Always. About. You. Antonino Tati
