Luxury comedy… ooh yeah!

If you find yourself passing by intimate theatre venues this month and hearing bouts of laughter, that’s because the Perth Comedy Festival is on for another rip-roaring thirty days.
Dubbed “the funniest month in Perth’s cultural calendar” for good reason, this year’s festival features over 200 hours of world-class, side-splitting, tear-inciting comedy across more venues than before. Indeed, venues range from the old-school and established (Regal Theatre, His Majesty’s, Octagon and Riverside Theatres) to makeshift intimate spaces (the Mt Lawley Bowling Club is hosting a great number of comedians this year).
As they say (not really, but we’re going) it’s the content that counts, no matter where you’re sitting. And this year’s comedy festival proves content is king!
Highlights include the UK’s Noel Fielding (of The Mighty Boosh and Luxury Comedy fame), the US’s Tony Woods who Time Out called “one of the funniest men on the American circuit”, and an army of Australian jokesters including Ronny Chieng (winner of both the Melbourne and Sydney Comedy Festivals in 2014), the exaggerated-ethnic group that is Superwog, Nick Cody and his cryptically-titled Beard Game Strong, and the very dry but hilarious Fringe favourite Adrienne Truscott.
