Britney and Iggy wreak havoc with new single

Britney and Iggy Full

Pop music is a strange beast. It’s wild for the most part; indeed the wilder it gets, the more popular it becomes (or notorious, at least). Bring two pop beasts together, and you get an even more over-the-top pop creation. The birth of some very awesome audio offspring. Spawn to be wild, if you will.

Case in point: the recent teaming up of Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea for an addictive new single called Pretty Girls.

The former is the Zeroes ‘It’ girl still getting her bitties out for the lads and lasses; the latter is thewhite rap sensation of 2015, hailing from humble Mullumbimby, NSW, no less.

Pretty Girls is a slice of sheer pop heaven. While it can’t really be dubbed a ‘duet’ since Britney sings on most of the track, it is certainly one of the better numbers we’ve heard with the word ‘featuring’ alongside its title.

It’s an electro ditty that sounds like a cross between Britney’s Piece Of Me and Iggy and Charlie XCX’s Fancy. There’s a subtle reference to Iggy’s roots and both girls’ current homebase in the opening line of the first verse, where Britney sings “…from Australia to ’round to LA, you can betcha wherever the girls go, [the] boys follow”.

Britney cheekily promoted the release of the track with a campaign involving Uber SUVs driving through LA and inviting passengers on board to be the first listen to the new track.

In a nutshell, while some might say the song’s sentiment and cover art – which looks very Earth Girls Are Easy might connote a certain sexism, the song itself is a kind of sexy empowerment to womenfolk and even includes the lyric “all around the world pretty girls wipe the floor with all the boys”.
