The return of Winona

What happens to an early ’90s pop cultural icon who realises reality really does bite when she is caught stealing things from shopping centres? In the case of Winona Ryder, she lays low for a while then bounces back in a cult television series.
Ryder will star opposite Jim Belushi and Alfred Molina in the HBO miniseries Show Me A Hero, which premieres on Foxtel’s showcase channel this Monday 17th August.
From creator David Simon (HBO’s The Wire) and director Paul Haggis (Crash), and based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Lisa Belkin, this six-part miniseries explores notions of home, race and community via the lives of elected officials, bureaucrats, activists and ordinary citizens in Yonkers, New York.
Set in the late ’80s, the issues nonetheless resonate with those of today.

‘Show Me A Hero’ airs Mondays at 7.30pm AEST starting August 17 on Foxtel’s showcase channel.
