It's official: Uber now legal in WA

All those in Western Australia who were growing sick of being ripped off by stinking cabs and their hidden charges (that really do add up), you’ll be happy to learn that it’s now official: Uber is legal in WA.

For those yet to play catch-up, Uber is a share-ride transport service that offers you a private car and driver for a moderate fee – sitting somewhere between a downsized limousine service and an upscale cab ride.

But the battle for Uber to remain in the WA market had evolved into legal action recently, with taxi plate owners wanting the courts to order the State Government to prosecute breaches of taxi laws.

During a recent hearing, a Justice was told of cases against 29 Uber drivers before the courts, although plate owners could not provide much detail.

It was announced this week that Uber will now be legalised in WA, which is sure to lead to sweeping reforms of the taxi industry, as revealed by Transport Minister Dean Nalder.

Mr Nalder said the proposed reforms would create a more “level playing field” for WA’s on-demand or taxi industry with increased accountability, competition and service quality from all transport providers.

Not to mention providing prettier vehicles for us to ride in – that don’t smell!  Antonino Tati
