ARIA's best-selling music of 2015

2015 was a year of diverse and infectious music, to say the least. Punters went from enjoying uptown funk tunes with a pop tinge to X-rated electronic-tinged rhetoric quicker than you could change that ‘dial’ on your digital playbox. Here’s what sold the best, according to those clever folk at ARIA…
Mark Ronson’s ubiquitous single ‘Uptown Funk’ blitzed the singles chart, sitting high up in the top spot. The song spent an incredible 15 weeks at number one in 2015 and in fact did not leave the top 100 all year.
Sitting pretty at number 2 was ‘Cheerleader’ by Omi – more specifically the Felix Jaehn Remix – which is odd since specific remixes rarely make it into end-of-year charts.
Also in the top 5 singles were Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth’s ‘See You Again’ at number three; Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church’ at number four (yep, it seems like that song is ages old to us, too); and Adele rounding out the top five with ‘Hello’.
Other artists making the top ten include Major Lazer, Ellie Goulding, and Justin Bieber.
Though Taylor Swift didn’t make it in the singles top ten, she can boast five singles in the top 100 – an impressive feat.
Adele topped the best-selling album charts with her LP ’25’. Ed Sheeran was runner-up with ‘X’ (what’s with all the digits?) and Taylor shook things up again with ‘1989’ making it in at number three.
Australians faired very well on the ARIA charts this year, with 14 Aussie acts making the top 100 singles and 35 of the top 100 albums for the past 12 months.
Legendary Aussie rock band Cold Chisel underlined their enduring appeal with two albums in the Top 100, a feat matched by Human Nature and breakthrough act Troye Sivan.
Also big on the charts were Sia (delivering the biggest local hit of 2015, with ‘Elastic Heart’ at No. 14) and single-monikered Grace delivering the third biggest Australian result with ‘You Don’t Own Me’.
