David Bowie unleashes world’s first ‘square’ video clip

Master of all things progressive in the world of pop culture (well, until the mainstream catches on, anyway), David Bowie has unleashed the video clip for his new single Lazarus. and while it can be viewed in traditional widescreen format, the clip’s been cropped square-shaped, fitting in nicely with today’s Instagram aesthetic.
The song itself is a brilliant one, all gushing electric guitar and spooky ambient synths with Bowie going on about being up in heaven with lots of drama but not sounding too happy about it. Again, like Starman and the single Blackstar before it, the lyrics appear to be some sort of critique on the price of notoriety. The star himself has his head bandaged – with buttons for eyes, looking like some anti-hero in a dark DC comic. And we love him for it.
Lazarus is the second single off David Bowie’s new album Blackstar, which is out today through Sony Music.
Needless to say, it’s an epic LP. Hear it and weep.
Oh, and it also happens to be Bowie’s birthday, so happy b-day to thee, dear chap! Antonino Tati
