5 Thoughtful Gifts for Expectant Mothers

Avoid buying the same cliché gifts for the expectant mother in your life. She doesn’t want breast pumps or blankets (she’ll have purchased them already or had plenty of those handed down to her) but thoughtful presents and the gift of a little ‘me time’ are the best options – she’ll need it once the baby is born!
01. Massage voucher
Aching backs and feet are common complaints in pregnant women, so book her in for a massage before the baby comes and let her enjoy some time to herself, to ease those aches and pains in the run up to the due date.
02. Something to satisfy her cravings
Has she been complaining about her desire to eat a giant pizza from Dominos or her thirst for a large chocolate frappe from Costa? Then why not pick her up a gift voucher for somewhere she’s been talking non stop about, either for when she’s pregnant or as a welcome treat afterwards if the thing she’s craving isn’t great for the baby (a large rare steak is sometimes lusted after but not good to eat while pregnant).
03. A fun item of clothing
There are sites, such as Helloprint UK, that offer personalised, high quality t-shirt printing and having an image of her baby scan or of her while pregnant printed on one of these could be given as a fun gift. You could also pick up a pair of labour themed socks that she can wear on the day featuring the words: ‘ready, set, push’ – these are a great option if you can’t afford to get her a big gift but you have a close relationship. You can pick them up from Amazon in pink and blue options, depending on what sex the baby is!
04. Postnatal pamper pack
Life’s tough for postnatal Mums as they start to get their body back and deal with all the changes it has been through, so a hamper full of helpful items will be well received. Sanitary towels, a soothing cream for sore breasts and a hot drink flask with a sealable lid will all help new Mums recover from their birthing experience and cope with caring for a new baby. You could also pop some items in there that she might have missed while pregnant, such as a small bottle of Prosecco or some strong cheese – this might sound strange but she will appreciate them now that she can enjoy them again.
05. Frozen meals
A Mum with a newborn and a partner who works long hours will appreciate having ready cooked meals to hand that she can simply pop in the microwave and enjoy without having to think about what she’s going to eat and when she’ll find time to cook it. Either start by cooking a little extra when you make a meal and popping a Tupperware box in the freezer or batch cooking something you know she loves. Ensure the food is packed with healthy items that will keep her full of energy (she’ll need it) and feeling good.
