To be a successful DJ in the queer scene requires a lot of shameless self promotion, and with the current rampant use of social media, some DJs are becoming famous more because of their marketing ability, rather than their ability to move a dancefloor, while others remain in obscurity despite their brilliance.
‘Mixing In The Pink’ is a grassroots style podcast that explores the broad spectrum of music played within the queer scene.
The interviews are candid, and the music is real. This is a radio show without the bullshit.
Hosted by DJ Roski, episode one interviews two legendary DJs. First up, DJ Curlee who was once an ARIA judge, and has been a resident at Connections nightclub in Perth for 19 years, as well as having mixed at Pride WA events since 1995.
The second DJ is from Sydney, who has just come back from touring internationally – Josh Kirkby. Josh started out promoting dance parties in Tokyo in the 1990s, and toured with some huge European acts including Sven Vath and Laurent Garnier. After moving back to Australia, he helped produce the massive ‘Trade’ parties at The Metro. He has mixed at countless parties including multiple Mardi Gras parades.
