Foxtel cancels Channel [V]

Foxtel has announced that it will be shutting down its youth music station Channel [V].

Staff were told 24 hours ago that the show will end this week, with most employees made redundant.

Head of Channels and Operations for the network, Stephen Baldwin, and Executive Director of Television, Brian Walsh, pointed to “steady decline” in the way broadcast audiences consume music and also blamed modern avenues for video-viewing such as YouTube for the show’s cancellation.

In it’s place (well, kind of) will be programming under the banner of ‘V Hits’, kicking off this Saturday, and presumably with little presentation between videos: more of a constant loop of music clips.

Foxtel insists there will be no near-future changes to their other music video channels, Max, CMC and Smooth.  Antonino Tati
