Seeing red (but it’s all good)
Acai berries, tumeric, kale, even charcoal – they’ve all been tagged as nature’s superfoods, some of them sounding like they’d be better as fuel for an old-school steam-train, not food for the fitness fanatic on the go.
Now we can add something more colourful and appreciative to the list: red wine.
Recent studies have found that a certain component of red wine – called resveratrol, an antioxidant found in grapes and berries – can aid in weight loss since it quickly converts excess white fat into “brown” or “beige” fat; these alternative fats help keep weight off by burning calories faster.
So if you prefer your plonk to hardcore pilates; a good cabernet over cardio, you might want to consider drinking more red wine. The studies also show that the later you drink the good drop in the day, the better the weight loss results.
We’ll definitely drink to that. Lisa Andrews & Antonino Tati
