Date and nominees announced for 2016 APRA Music Awards

The 2016 APRA Music Awards will be held at Carriageworks in Sydney on Tuesday 5 April.
For those not in the music biz or who’ve cheekily used music in a public sphere without paying copyright, APRA is the Australasian Performing Right Association that works together with AMCOS, the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society, to distribute mechanical royalties to artists who make music.
APRA are committed to celebrating the success of music creators across all genres via its annual awards event.
Leading the nominations this year, with four apiece, are Jarryd James (Song of the Year, Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year, Most Played Australian Work, Pop Work of the Year) for ‘Do You Remember’ and Sia Furler (Most Played Australian Work x 2, Pop Work of the Year x 2) for ‘Elastic Heart’ and the Jessie J hit, ‘Flashlight’.
Other songwriters and musicians with multiple nominations include AC/DC, Birds Of Tokyo, Hilltop Hoods, Vance, Lee Kernaghan and Peking Duk.
To acknowledge significant achievements made by APRA AMCOS members based overseas, a new award category has been introduced this year, the Overseas Recognition Award. Open to all musical genres, the Award was created to recognise the success of members in markets outside of Australia.
