McDonald's brightest burgers yet…

Just when you thought the food colouring quirk of inner-city cafes was a bit of a stomach-churner (rainbow-coloured toasties with your blue-and-white-striped cappucino?) come news McDonald’s in China has issued two strangely-hued burgers that feature green and red buns.

The bright burgers are limited-edition menu items in honour of the new Angry Birds movie release this month. What to ask for at the drive-thru? The ‘Naughty Green Pork Burger’ or the ‘Super Red Burger’.

The Naughty Green Pork Burger comes with egg, lettuce and a ‘mystery’ jalapeño sauce; the Super Red Burger sandwiches crumbed chicken and lettuce.

The strange thing about the sudden fascination with dyed foods is that its incongruous with all our fuss over everything natural and organic. Surely anything that can turn a pound of pork into a kind of soylent green should be approached with caution.
