Darren Hayes writes open letter to Malcolm Turnbull
Singer Darren Hayes has published an open letter to Malcolm Turnbull, requesting that the Prime Minister of Australia cancel the proposed plebiscite for marriage equality.
Hayes highlighted the fact that the $160-million it would cost to conduct a plebiscite would be better spent on other issues such as health care, and in particular mental health care.
The singer, pictured above on the cover of a very early edition of Cream, also made mention of the statistic that 72 percent of Australians are already in favour of equal marriage, saying this is another reason a plebiscite would be redundant.
Turnbull is insistent the Australian public would want a plebiscite, which according to Hayes is pretty much a glorified opinion poll. A very expensive one at that, courtesy of the Australian tax-payers. Antonino Tati
