Trainspotting 2 to provide perfect fix for fans

Having endured a 20 year-long withdrawal, fans of Trainspotting managed to get a much-needed fix this week, with the teaser trailer for the film’s sequel (imaginatively titled Trainspotting 2) landing online.

Slated for an early 2017 release, Trainspotting 2 promises to deliver another serving of indie-cool tragicomedy. The original cast are all here, albeit a little greyer around the temples and wider around the waist, so it will be fascinating to see what adventures director Danny Boyle and writer John Hodge have in store for their now middle-aged miscreants.

The trailer doesn’t give anything away in terms of plot, but many of the stylistic hallmarks from the original film have been retained: the Pantone block-colour title, the ‘right-on’ indie soundtrack… Indeed we couldn’t even find much in the way of graphics, save for the photoshopped genius courtesy of some fan, above.

Giving fans only smidgens of official clues is, of course, the right approach. Like any good pusher, Boyle and Co realise the best way to keep a film junkie wanting more is by doling out the product in small doses.

With the arrival of a full-length trailer and other promotional material sure to come later in the year, fans will get an even bigger hit to their system. But for now, you’re going to have to put up with a bit of the DTs.  Chris Prindiville
