At a time when everything old is new again, grunge music – that relic from the ’90s – is ready for its encore.
The soundtrack for the slacker generation is now hitting the stage (quite literally), with the Repertory Theatre in Seattle commissioning a grunge musical that will have audiences banging their heads away to memorable riffs.
The music will be sourced from the BMG catalogue, which features all the heavy-hitters from the era, including Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Hole (featuring Courtney Love, above) and Alice in Chains.
No further information regarding casting or the musical’s title has been made available. So, until then, donning the flannel and ripped jeans and dusting off the record collection is the next best thing.
Who knows, this little gig might end up snowballing into something massive and global, but… could we ever imagine Smells Like Teen Spirit being performed with jazz hands on the Crown stage? Chris Prindiville
