Coma Land: Theatre as a wake-up call
Most of us can remember hearing the phrase “reaching your potential” more than a few times growing up. But just how we are meant to go about it is another story entirely.
For playwright Will O’Mahony, grappling with life’s uncertainties is a subject worthy of dramatic exploration.
In his latest effort, Coma Land, O’Mahony tells the story of a young child genius, Boon, who is trapped in a world beyond her control. There, she meets Penguin, a young girl who is determined to escape her situation. United by this shared desire, the two girls pit themselves against a world that is out to control them… but just who will prevail?
Brought to life by a talented cast of up-and-comers, this tale of confusion, of not knowing what life has in store for you, is something we can all relate to.
At a time when trying to make sense of anything seems an impossible task, Coma Land is out there having a good go. And that’s no small thing. Chris Prindiville
‘Coma Land’ runs from July 20- August 6 at Perth’s Studio Underground.
