Cries of joy

Tina Arena @2x

In 2018, the famous strain ‘Don’t cry for me Argentina’ will be heard once more in Opera Australia’s upcoming production of Evita, with Aussie pop icon Tina Arena topping the bill as Eva Peron.

While she has made her name in the world of pop music, Tina Arena is no stranger to the theatrical stage, having starred in productions in Australia and across the globe.  Now, 10 years after Arena wowed critics on the West End as Roxie Hart in Chicago, she is back with her most challenging theatrical project to date.

Featuring some of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s best-loved songs, including Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, On This Night of a Thousand Stars, You Must Love Me and Another Suitcase in Another Hall, Evita charts the story of Peron, wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron, from her humble beginnings through to the extraordinary wealth, power and status which ultimately led her to be heralded as the ‘spiritual leader of the nation’.

Next year it will be Australia’s turn to swoon to the sounds of this beloved musical.

Missing out would be a crying shame, indeed.  Chris Prindiville
