After the runaway success of The People vs O.J. Simpson, the genius that is Ryan Murphy (co-creator of another TV juggernaut, American Horror Story) and his team are back at it again, with the next instalment in their ‘American Crime Story’ anthology series due to hit screens in 2018.
The Assassination of Gianni Versace will follow the events surrounding the death of the legendary fashion designer in the summer of 1997. Starring Edgar Ramirez as Gianni (a spitting image, in fact), alongside Penelope Cruz as his sister Donatella, and pop star Ricky Martin as the designer’s partner Antonio D’Amico, this series promises to be just as gripping as its predecessor. Here are all four featured on the cover of Entertainment Weekly in June.
Twenty years on, and the shock of Versace’s murder remains as does the questioning over just what happened on that fateful day. Needless to say, just how Murphy and co piece together the story will be worth waiting for.
Gaga might not be herein (early rumours were that she would be playing Donatella), but with a story this compelling and a creative crew this good, Murphy can’t go wrong. Chris Prindiville
