At last night’s BET Awards, controversial rapper Eminem delivered an intense a capella rap, with practically every lyric aimed at “stomping” over Donald Trump.
The artist verbally obliterates Trump in a freestyle track that ends with an ultimatum to his fans: choose sides – be a fan of Eminem’s or a supporter of Trump.
The four-minute clip was shot in a Detroit carpark and debuted at the BET Hip Hop Awards, showing Eminem dressed in black hoodie and tracky pants, dissing the U.S. President with lines like “He wants us to disband ’cause he cannot withstand the fact we’re not afraid of Trump; walking on egg shells [but] I came to stomp”, and “All these horrible tragedies and he’s bored, and would rather cause a Twitter storm with the Packers”.
If some of the rap sounds cryptic, the bottom line is obvious enough, with Eminem shouting up close to the camera: “We f***ing hate Trump!”.
Supporters of the song so far include Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs, LeBron James, J. Cole, and Kaepernick.
In the past, Eminem himself has been accused of expressing misogynistic – and often homophobic – statements in his songs, but it seems the rapper has somewhat more of a conscious these days.
The rap itself is pretty intense. Now, all it needs is a good beat and some beaut samples, and the world might just begin to move and groove in the proper direction. Antonino Tati
