Handle with care
In the wake of the Las Vegas shooting, the team behind American Horror Story have decided to re-edit the series’ upcoming mass shooting episode.
The sixth episode of American Horror Story: Cult, which airs this week, was originally going to open and close with a graphic depiction of a mass shooting at a political rally. But in response to what happened in Vegas just over a week ago, series creator Ryan Murphy has revealed that the violence in the episode will be significantly toned down for audiences, with most of it now occurring off-screen.
Cult hasn’t shied away from graphic violence thus far, but Murphy has made it clear that the episode titled ‘Mid-Western Assassin’ would work just as well without explicitly depicting the shooting.
Yet despite these efforts to fall in line with public sentiment, some have questioned whether or not the episode should go to air at all. For the moment at least, Murphy is holding firm with his decision that the edited episode should go ahead.
The only thing we can do now is wait and see for ourselves how Murphy and co have handled the situation. Chris Prindiville
