Following on from the sexual assault scandal surrounding Harvey Weinstein, Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp has turned the focus onto another prominent figure in Hollywood, Kevin Spacey.

Rapp claims Spacey made sexual advances towards him when the former was just 14 years of age, and Spacey 26.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Rapp says that in 1986, he and Spacey began a mild friendship while they were both performing in Broadway shows. Rapp says Spacey invited him over to his apartment for a party and that by the end of the night, only the two of them remained. It was then, he says, that Spacey came into a bedroom Rapp was napping in, picked him up “like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold”, placed him on a bed, and climbed on top of him.

In response to Rapp’s story, Spacey posted on Twitter today that he did not remember the encounter, and added: “But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunkenbehaviour”. Spacey has also just announced he is gay, saying, “I choose now to live as a gay man”.

Rapp says he hasn’t seen Spacey since the incident but feels the time is right to address the event “to shine another light on the decades of behaviour that have been allowed to continue because many people, including myself [have been] silent.”

“I’m feeling really awake to the moment that we’re living in,” Rapp continued, “and I’m hopeful that this can make a difference.”

BuzzFeed has tried contacting Spacey’s representatives for comment but so far they have not responded.  Antonino Tati
