Taking home the prize
The 2017 MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) may have come and gone, but they certainly made an impression on viewers around the world.
Hosted in London, the ceremony saw faces old and new take to the stage to claim awards.
The night’s big winner was Shawn Mendes, who took home the top gongs, Best Artist and Best Song. The 19 year-old Canadian singer-songwriter has had a stellar 2016 and 2017, with his second album, Illuminate, reaching the top 10 of the Billboard 100.
The big names were also recognised, with superstars Eminem (best hip-hop), Coldplay (best rock), and David Guetta (best electronic) all coming away with awards.
Even the Australian music scene got a look in, with Jessica Mauboy taking out the Best Local Act award.
When it came to the night’s live performances, it was Eminem’s thrilling rendition of his newly dropped track “Walk on Water,” backed by an orchestra and guest artist Skylar Grey, that provided the wow moment.
Just what next year’s EMAs will look like (it will be taking place in Bilbao, Spain) is anyone’s guess, but if it is anything like its predecessor, it is sure to go off with a bang. Chris Prindiville
