A cooler blend of culture

Richter at GOMA @2x

‘Gerhard Richter: The Life of Images’ is currently on at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) until 4 February 2018 and graphic aesthetes are flocking to see it.

Regarded as one of the world’s most influential artists, Richter’s work ranges from abstract to the photo-realist, and has been a major influence on everything from architecture to pop culture. Heck, even the Pet Shop Boys referenced Richter for their cover art of their album Yes.

German-born Richter’s art follows can best be described as being akin to the cubism of Picasso meets the installation work of Jean Arp.

Queensland Premier and Arts Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk says the exhibition is helping cement GOMA’s excellent international reputation.

“I’m thrilled an exhibition of this calibre has been developed and presented here in Queensland – it’s a first in Australia and further reinforces GOMA’s place as a leading contemporary art museum showcasing the best of global art on our doorstep,” said Palaszczuk.
