In our eyes the summer holidays are taking on a new persona this year. the new holidayer doesn’t want to forage the beach for an empty square metre of sand, bask in the penetrating rays to achieve leather likeness, or have every day go by with the fun yet unfulfilling closure of bevs by the shore. Rather, the new summer lover is audacious and active; wants breathtaking experiences.
So a trip to the Snowy Mountains is ideal. Although primarily known as a snow season getaway, the Snowies’ powder-covered slopes become a sea of luxurious flora that in itself is a stunning sight. If you don’t get your kicks from scenic-induced orgasms courtesy of toured walks or helicopter rides, there’s always an extensive list of activities that include horseback riding, mountain biking, fishing, golfing, sailing and more. As for camping there are plenty of options, but hooking up your hammock carabiners anywhere in Kosciuszko National Park and looking up at the stars at night is definitely one to tick off the bucket list!
What is that you say? Still not enough? There’s always the broad array of breweries, B&Bs and summer events, ranging from rodeos to blues festivals. A particular favourite is the Boggy Creek live show, a rural Australian showdown integrating traditionalised errands (whip-cracking and horsemanship) with oldschool animal humour, and topped off with billy tea at the end.
In ridiculously close proximity to Jindabyne and Thredbo, the Snowy Mountains seem to tick all the boxes for the aforementioned metaphorical summer persona, so all bets are on that it will do the same for you.
