In Boy Erased, Jared Eamons (Academy Award Nominee Lucas Hedges) plays the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, outed to his parents (Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe) as gay at the age of 19.
Jared is quickly pressured into attending a gay conversion therapy program – or else be shunned by his family, friends, and church. It is within this program that Jared comes into conflict with its head therapist (Joel Edgerton).
Boy Erased is a film brimming with issues still being faced by members of the LGBTI community today; issues of prejudice, sexism, bullying, even torture – simply for being different in their sexual inclination to ‘ordinary’ heterosexual.
This is a must-see movie for everyone within the LGBTI community, their allies, and those who wish to learn more about some of the hardships LGBTI individuals have faced, and still face, to this day.
‘Boy Erased’ is in cinemas November 8, 2018.
