‘The Notebook’ to be turned into a Broadway musical

It’s one of the most popular romantic films of the modern era. So popular, you or your girlfriend probably own it on DVD, or indeed have started, stopped and started watching it again on Netflix about a dozen times. It’s The Notebook and it’s about to be turned into a musical on Broadway.

That’s right boys, now you not only have to be coaxed into watching the infamous chick flick through home entertainment, you’ll soon have to shell a couple of hundred to watch a full-blown production of it live on stage.

In 2004, ‘The Notebook’ was turned into a movie starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, who then went on to become real-life lovers.

While no Australian production details have been revealed – because of course a big show has got to be tested on Broadway first, we do know that Bekah Brunstetter (who is a producer on the NBC family drama series This is Us) is writing the show, which will be produced in collaboration with Nicholas Sparks, author of the book on which it is based.

The novel was originally published in 1996 and chronicled a couple’s passion-filled but turbulent relationship that follows their falling in love in the 1940s, then falling apart, then later reconnecting.

In 2004, it was turned into a movie starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams (who then became real-life lovers), opening to mediocre reviews but becoming a runaway hit nonetheless.

No casting or opening date has been announced for the Broadway production but we’ll let you know as soon as we do.  Lisa Andrews
