Samsung unveil a mother of a screen size…

So you’re chuffed with your 65″ flatscreen TV recently hooked up onto the living room wall. Way proud, right? Well how do 98 inches grab you?

Samsung has just unveiled its biggest home theatre screen ever in crystal clear 8K quality – however it’s not so much to sell units as it is to show off the brand in the competitive audio-visual industry.

The 98-inch 8K TV set was revealed by the South Korean electronics company at a press event yesterday, but most journalists wanted to know why the fanfare when there is actually no 8K-formatted content available to consumers yet.

To answer that, Samsung have said the televisions will support native 8K content via the HDMI 2.1 spec when it becomes available.

The 2019 release of 8K TVs also features models with 65″, 75″, 82″ and 85″ screens, each embedded with a Quantum Processor 8K chip that allows AI-based technology to recognise and upscale content regardless of the native resolution.

The real question is, why didn’t the electronics giant just round the screen length to 100 clean inches? Perhaps that’s for next year…  Michael Mastess
