In today’s music climate, crammed with all its rapper braggadocio and bimbo philosophy, it’s rare to come across a decent political statement. Not like in the 80s and 90s when everyone from U2 to Sinead O’Connor to Muse would have their say of dodgy goings-on in the world.
Alas, this week The Killers have released a new track titled Land Of The Free, which comments obviously on Donald Trump’s anti-Mexico stance and his horrible decision to go ahead with building the wall between the US and Mexico.
Spike Lee, who directed the film ‘BlacKkKlansman’, was responsible for the cinematography of the clip, shooting footage along the US/Mexico border in the last weeks leading into the new year.
The video shows migrants clashing with police, and even members of the US Border Patrol firing tear gas at innocent people, along with other disturbing practices.
The song’s lyrics make reference to America’s immigrants throughout history including those who came by sea in the late 1500s.
