Fans of vinyl records might be upset to read the news that iconic Perth record store 78 Records is shutting down business next month.
The store, which has been operating for over 47 years, announced on social media last night that it will cease business, due to a downturn in sales; the downturn due, naturally, to growth in digital music consumption.
78 Records opened shop in Forrest Place in the Perth CBD in June 1971, stocking some 300 titles at the time, most of those being imports. It continued to operate as a specialist record outlet, stocking hard-to-find vinyl recordings including underground club 12″ vinyl, seeing business peak in the mid to late 1980s.
The business relocated several times before ending up in a laneway off Murray Street where it will close its doors on March 3, 2019.
