A safari fit for a (Lion) King

With The Lion King about to hit the big screen, we here at Cream are already reminiscing about trips a couple of years back to splendid reserves in Kenya where we got to see the king of the jungle up close for real.

Simba, Nala, Pumbaa and Zazu might do it for the kids, but for us it’s getting next to the real thing that sees us skipping a heartbeat.

If you’re feeling pretty much the same, there are few better spots to soak the beauty in than Mahali Mzuri, Richard Branson’s luxury tented safari camp in the heart of the Maasai Mara.

There are approximately 60 lions in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy alone, made up of three prides and its newest lion cubs (born in the last week of May).  These babes have just been introduced to the pride, making this the perfect time for guests to see their very own Simba or Nala in their homeland.

With twice-daily game drives led by expert guides, and 12 luxurious tented suites that look out onto some of the world’s most stunning scenery, Mahali Mzuri offers a truly intimate experience amidst an astonishing natural spectacle.

Of course, it’s not just lions that make this location truly incredible as your very own Pumbaa (warthog) and Zazu (red-billed hornbill) are regular guests of the conservancy. In fact, there are up to 500 warthogs that can be regularly sighted – some of whom you’ll hear late at night, since they’ll come as close as 500 metres from the camp.

And don’t get us started on the dazzles of zebras and towers of giraffes you’ll encounter on your drives.

Between now and December, Mahali Mzuri is offering a free night on bookings of four nights or more, allowing for a four-night stay for the price of three. Offer runs until December 2019 and can be combined with a kid’s go free offer, making it a perfect family holiday experience.
