Actor and comedian Jerry Stiller has died: RIP George Costanza’s dad in ‘Seinfeld’
Veteran actor and comedian Jerry Stiller has died of natural causes, aged 92.
The announcement was made by his son, actor Ben Stiller, through Twitter on Monday morning (evening, Australian time).
“I’m sad to say that my father, Jerry Stiller, passed away from natural causes. He was a great dad and grandfather, and the most dedicated husband for 62 years. He will be greatly missed. Love you Dad.”
Jerry Stiller had performed in a string of television series but is probably most famous for his role as George Constanza’s dad, Frank, in Seinfeld.
He also played Leah Remini’s father in The King of Queens, and Zoolander’s manager in the comedy flick directed by son Ben Stiller.
Stiller appeared in both film versions of John Waters’ Hairspray, that is the 1988 original in which he and drag queen Divine played parents of Ricki Lake’s Tracy Turnblad, and the 2007 remake in which he played Mr. Pinky.
While primarily viewed as a comedian, Stiller was also a serious dramatic actor with a close affinity to Broadway.
