Maldives introduce an interesting initiative: giving you points just for entering the country!

If you’re planning your next holiday – even though border restrictions are somewhat confusing right now – you may wish to consider the beautiful Maldives.
Last week, a new tourism-boosting initiative was launched, dubbed Maldives Border Miles which will see registered travellers earning points based on their number of visits to the country and their duration of stay.
Additional points will be awarded for visits to celebrate special occasions, with three categories to aim for.
The three categories are: Aida (bronze tier), Antara (silver tier) and Abaarana (gold tier), and each level is defined by various rewards, services or benefits, each increasing in value as members progress.
While we’re used to seeing points collated in actual travel via airlines, it’s rare to see a nation granting points to visitors to its shores, so this is quite an innovative program.

The tourism promotion program was initiated by Maldives Immigration, and developed with joint stakeholders including the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Marketing and PR, and Maldives Airports Company Limited.
