Here’s to a Covid-safe Mardi Gras 2021 which is set to be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground!

While organisers of various events are still uhm-ing and ahh-ing if they’ll be hosting their productions in 2021 (post Covid), Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras have confirmed today that, yes, the big parade and party will be taking place on Saturday 6 March – for sures!
Mardi Gras will be taking over the Sydney Cricket Ground for Australia’s beloved celebration of LGBTQI+ pride and diversity.
To ensure the safety of all our parade participants, spectators and the community at large, the 2021 Parade will be held at the SCG, where a capacity of 23,000 audience members will watch on as community groups unite in an extravagant show of pride and passion.
Parade partner SBS will broadcast the entire event live, so peeps can watch from anywhere they are in Australia.
The 2021 Mardi Gras theme is ‘RISE’ – a necessary message since we’ve all faced a past year of heavy challenges and hardship. It is a call to action that now is the time to rise again through respect, compassion and love, and to work together to make the world and life a whole lot better.
“Mardi Gras has always been the epitome of creative expression through art and culture; two things severely impacted by COVID-19 this year,” says Mardi Gras CEO Albert Kruger. “So it was important to Mardi Gras that we rise to the occasion and to give the community the creative platform to express their pride to the world.
“The 2021 Parade may look different to how it has been in the past, but we feel very lucky to be able to give this opportunity to our communities during these times.”

Parade float applications and volunteer opportunities will open at 10am AEDT Monday 9 November.
Tickets will be available to the general public at 2pm AEDT on Monday 9 November – Adults $20, Group bookings of four $50, Children under 15 or concession $15. This small ticket price helps Mardi Gras cover the cost of operating this event under a COVID Safe Model.
Here’s to us all rising to the occasion!
