Psycho hat-trick: ‘American Psycho – The Musical’ on in Sydney again
It may not have seemed possible but American Psycho has been turned into a musical. Yep, all those ironic songs from the 1980s that Patrick Bateman played on the big screen as he hacked his way through the city of New York can now be heard in dandy musical format.
Sexy, dark and disturbing, American Psycho – The Musical will be presented in the Sydney Opera House’s Playhouse from 3 – 27 June, 2021.
Based on Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel and the subsequent 2000 film, American Psycho is a chilling yet dark comical insight into a society driven by capitalism, self-image and wealth.
The production returns after a successful season at the Hayes Theatre Co. in 2019 that earned the musical nine Sydney Theatre Awards.
Starring Ben Gerrard, this pitch-black satire tells the story of Bateman, a young and handsome member of Manhattan’s elite who indulges in sadistic sex and murder.
The on-stage soundtrack, like the film, will include ’80s classics from Phil Collins, Tears for Fears, New Order and Huey Lewis and the News.
Remember, folks, it’s hip to be square, and the hippest and the squarest will have read the book, seen the film, and now caught the musical.
Tickets are available through www.sydneyoperahouse.com.
