Taylor Swift is the top artist to houseclean to, according to a new Spotify study; here are the other tunes we love to sweep our floors to…
We may be heading toward the start of winter but thanks to recent lockdowns, a lot of us have resorted to regular spring-cleaning no matter what the season.
Personally, I have finished alphabetising all my DVDs and Blu-rays, put all the books on shelves in order of the colour spectrum, given stacks of bags of old clothes to charity, repainted the walls in the WC, and scrubbed some corners around the house that I didn’t even know existed.
To motivate me, there has always been a bit of music playing in the background – my top three artists to clean to being Scritti Politti, George Michael and early (yes early) Madonna.
Quite simply, no spring cleaning is complete without a banging playlist to put you in the mood to tackle the job at hand. Hence HomeHow.co.uk recently analysed 30,000 songs across 185 of Spotify’s most streamed playlists to discover which artists and songs are most cleaned to, globally.
The number one artist is Taylor Swift, now official the “Queen of Clean” with 445 appearances across playlists. Other leading artists include Drake in second place (with 156 appearances), followed by Rihanna, Katy Perry and The Weeknd
To discover each artist’s most played songs, see the list below.
As for what are the actual popular songs to clean to, Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody tops the list, with over 610 million streams on Spotify alone.
In second place is Britney Spears’ Toxic, and in third is The Killers’ Mr Brightside.
What, we wondered, are the average beats per minute to clean to? Well, based on the analysis, fast and uptempo tunes are the most popular to dust the shelves and scrub the tiles to. And 129 bpm is the optimal tempo that gets people pumped to clean.
Put the needle on the record or press play on that pod, and dip your mitts into those soap suds, baby!
